DMEM/F-12 is a 1:1 mixture of Dulbecco’s Modified Eagle Medium and Ham’s F-12, combining the higher nutrient concentration of DMEM with the rich composition of F-12. It is a versatile basal medium that supports a broad range of cell types in both serum-containing and serum-free formulations. HEPES is typically included to help maintain buffering capacity when serum is reduced.
