When is it worth switching to an external buffer supply?

Almost every antibody programme begins with buffers produced inhouse at laboratory level. However, what works at the bench quickly becomes a bottleneck when making the leap to GMP: increasing volumes, growing regulatory requirements and analytical capacity that is actually needed for product characterisation.
