IPL-41 is primarily used for the growth and maintenance of lepidopteran cells and supports the propagation of viruses in these cell lines. It is well suited to extended culture of baculovirus-infected Spodoptera cells. The medium contains L-glutamine, glucose and 0.35 g/L sodium bicarbonate, without phenol red or HEPES, and is typically supplemented per protocol. IPL-41 is also a well-established basis for serum-free and protein-free insect cell media.
